In this position, you will plan, coordinate, and administer the Airport Security Plan. This position will supervise, schedule, train, assign, evaluate, and participate in the work of airport communications center dispatchers and badging office staff. You will be the primary Airport Security Coordinator.

Essential Job Functions

The basic job duties an employee must be able to perform include:

  • Provide staff support to the airport operations manager and day-to-day oversight of administrative functions.
  • Direct, coordinate, and review the work of assigned personnel; assign work activities and projects; monitor workflow; inspect, review, and evaluate work products, training, methods, and procedures; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; work with staff to correct deficiencies, and implement discipline procedures as needed.
  • Develop, communicate, and enforce job expectations; evaluate, coach, and counsel airport security employees.
  • Serve as the Airports primary and immediate contact for security-related activities and communications with the Transportation Security Agency (TSA).
  • Maintain and update the Airport Security Program, policies, or other security-related documents.
  • Review all security-related functions to ensure compliance with 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 1542, CFR Part 1500, the Airports security program, and applicable security directives; initiate corrective actions for any instance of non-compliance.
  • Ensure availability of documents for review by federal agencies; coordinate investigations and responses to security issues with Colorado Springs Police Department and TSA.
  • Observe airport security activities; review and test procedures, policies, and responses for periodic tabletop or field exercises; evaluate and ensure the effectiveness of the airport security program.
  • Address security compliance, procedures, and planning with airport tenants and contractors; make periodic visits to airfield and tenant lease areas.
  • Coordinate and conduct security outreach training programs to keep airport employees/tenants current on security regulations and policies.
  • Authorize and determine the necessity for security clearances to airport users seeking access to the Security Identification Display Area and Sterile Area (SIDA).
  • Assist in the development of the annual budget.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in aviation management, professional aeronautics, aviation administration, public administration, business administration, or related field.
  • Three years of full-time professional airport operations experience.
  • Possess and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges.
  • One year of supervisory experience.

One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

This position requires that you are available for emergency callout.

The selected candidate must pass (or have already passed) a fingerprint-based criminal history records check as required by the Transportation Security Administration.

Physical Demands:

This position requires the ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, and walking or standing to a significant degree.

Primary Work Environment: Office and outdoors with possible exposure to inclement weather, extreme temperature, wetness and humidity, respiratory hazards, noise and vibrations, physical hazards, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, and exposure to communicable diseases.
