DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This position is critical to the Municipal Courts Department's Judicial Operations Division and serves as the official recorder and records custodian for trials and appeals under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Courts Department. This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity for Court Reporters to bring their passion and resilience to our team. Duties include:
Providing verbatim recordings of court proceedings by means of the stenographer method, manual shorthand, closed microphone recording and/or direct recording at the Court's discretion.
Transcribing proceedings into written form to provide official records for the court.
Verbally translating portions of the proceedings before the court, jury and/or attorneys upon request.
Typing court records, correspondence, etc., as designated by the judge.
Performing other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
General office setting. Occasional periods of standing, stooping, bending and/or light lifting of materials up to 10 pounds. The environment has acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Requires a High School Diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
No experience is required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Court Reporters Certification licensed by the Judicial Branch Certification Commission (JBCC) of the State of Texas.
Must pass a State and Federal Criminal History Background Check.
Must maintain updated licensing and certifications from the JBCC.
PREFERENCES:
Preference will be given to qualified candidates who are proficient in their field and who have an associate or bachelor’s degree.
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants providing they possess the necessary qualifications for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position, are among the most qualified candidates, and all other factors align with Executive Order 1‑6.
