Registered Nurse – Orthopedics

Facility: Cone Health – Alamance Regional Medical Center
Location: 1240 Huffman Mill Rd, Burlington, NC 27215
Start Date: October 21, 2025
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Day Shift (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM), 3x12-hour shifts/week
Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
Call: No call required
Float: Required as needed across Cone Health campuses

Position Overview

Care for adult and geriatric orthopedic patients as well as medical-surgical patients on a 32-bed unit with telemetry monitoring. Patient population includes total joint replacements, fracture repairs, shoulder repairs, kyphoplasties, neck/back surgeries, and other surgical procedures. The unit includes a physical therapy gym for patient rehab.

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years nursing experience
• Epic EMR experience required
• BLS certification required
• Preferred charge nurse experience
• Experience with orthopedic trauma, total joint replacements, surgical drains, telemetry remote monitoring

Skills & Clinical Competencies

• IV therapy and phlebotomy, including accessing ports, blood draws, central and peripheral line care, PICC line management
• Respiratory care: chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac), CPAP/BiPAP, nasal cannula, oxygen tanks, tracheostomy management
• GI care: colostomy care, feeding tube management
• GU/Renal: continuous bladder irrigation, pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure
• Neurological: CVA, pre/post neurosurgery
• Medication knowledge: Heparin, PCA
• Wound care including wound VAC
• Isolation precautions

• Patient Age Groups: Adults and geriatrics
• Daily Census: 28
• Interdisciplinary support: IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory, pharmacy, rapid response teams, and more
• Special equipment: CPM devices, Buck’s traction, neck and back braces
