R&D Vision

What You Will Get To Do Each Day:

New Product Development –

Our Chemists play a vital role in the creation of innovative products that utilize the best of new technologies while leveraging what we know. They are partners in the process from beginning to end, including: working with sales to identify customer needs and opportunities, identifying the best formulations and technologies for success, and partnering with manufacturing to scale up the final product.

Technology Expert–

Our Chemists identify, evaluate, and implement innovative solutions that have an impact on helping us provide the best possible solution for our customers. They are actively seeking out and leveraging new technologies in the market to improve productivity and reduce cost amongst other factors. Our chemists have a genuine curiosity to explore new possibilities and believe in turning the impossible into possible. They also have an ability to effectively communicate technical concepts with their team members, as well as non-technical stakeholders to influence decision making.

Customer/Product Management:

Our Chemists play an important role in connecting our customers' needs with our available product offerings. They seek opportunities to partner with sales to better understand our customers' needs and ways to better service them with improved products, reducing cost or number of formulas, improved application methods, or streamlining products across multiples customers. Our chemists also serve as technical support to our customers and sales team, a key part of our unique approach to winning. The individualized service our customers receive on technical needs is unmatched by our competition!

Opportunities For Excellence:

Our Chemists not only ensure our external customers are serviced effectively, but they are also exploring opportunities to improve our internal processes too. They drive impact by partnering with manufacturing to create processes to produce our products faster and easier by optimizing formulas, reducing raw materials, and reviewing quality processes to ensure all batches come out correctly the first time and meet regulatory requirements. Our chemists also focus on opportunities for cross-brand integration of products and formulas and play an active role in onboarding new companies added underneath the Fenix portfolio.

Supervise Quality Control Technicians/Tinters:

This role is unique in that you will also get to supervise and manage our two Quality Control Technicians/Tinters at our Lubbock, TX location to ensure our products meet the required customer specifications and keep our manufacturing processes moving for timely delivery. As a part of this, you will be responsible for the implementation of a data color computer to make color corrections faster and easier.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience in the industrial coatings market
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or Related Field
  • Must have proven familiarity with basic coatings lab equipment including but not limited to: Zahn viscosity cups, Stormer viscometer, gloss meter, fineness of grind gauge, and draw down bars.
  • Must have knowledge in the manufacturing of some of the following coatings including clears and pigmented:
    • Solvent based solution acrylic sealers
    • 2-part water based and solvent based acrylic urethanes
    • 2-part water based and 100% solid epoxies
    • 2-part polyaspartic and urethane systems
    • Acrylic emulsion
    • Polyurethane dispersion
    • Silane and silicone
    • Alkyds
