Lyon College School of Dental Medicine invites passionate, student-centered professionals to apply for the role of Education Support Specialist. This full-time, 12-month position offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of future dental professionals.

In this dynamic role, you'll be the compassionate face that works with professional school students helping dental students when they require support in gaining and applying best practices for the study and learning skills needed throughout our rigorous three-year DMD program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage incoming student inquiries with accuracy, professionalism, and a problem-solving mindset.
  • Develop, track and manage individual and small groups sessions on academic skill building
  • Design teaching development workshops and disseminate instructional resources to deliver in a variety of disciplinary and interdisciplinary contexts. Highlight pedagogical methods appropriate to a diverse student body
  • Create and disseminate on-demand content
  • Work with faculty to employ best practices in effective teaching and learning, including curriculum development
  • Participate in ongoing assessment of student learning outcomes including data collection and analysis
  • Hold office hours for student meetings upon request
  • Develop, train and supervise peer and class mentors in specific content areas
  • Provide effective feedback on post-graduation application materials
  • Stay abreast of research, trends, and innovations in teaching and learning as applied to classroom and online learning environments

  • Collaborate on faculty development programs as appropriate.
    Consult and collaborate with LCSDM instructional technologist on projects and initiatives that integrate best pedagogical practices and emerging technologies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree with at least three years of recent experience in higher education.
    • Masters degree preferred in education, higher education, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in student services, with knowledge of best practices to support student academic success.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and presentation skills, with a collaborative approach to working with faculty, staff, and institutional stakeholders.
  • Proficient in basic computer functions, including higher education-specific software, spreadsheets, calendars, and virtual platforms.
  • A proactive communicator, tech-savvy advisor, and enthusiastic team player with a passion for helping students thrive in professional school and beyond.
  • Empathy, adaptability, and a sense of humor are essential qualities.
  • Valid drivers license required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to sit for extended periods of time (i.e. computer).
  • Physical ability to use the telephone to conduct business.
  • Physical ability to stand and to lift moderate weight.
