Salary:

Role Overview:

The Senior Publishing/Copy Editor will support our company's contract with the Army by providing expert editing and formatting services for doctrinal publications. This position requires meticulous attention to detail in compiling, editing, and formatting sources and citations, as well as in preparing comprehensive indexes to enhance document navigation. The Senior Publishing/Copy Editor will collaborate closely with the Government Lead throughout the developmental and final editing phases, ensuring that all publications meet established schedules and are formatted according to specified templates. This role demands a strong command of editorial standards and proficiency in Microsoft Word and TRADOC templates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Edit and Revise Publications: Including compiling, editing, and formatting all sources and citations within documents. Prepare and format indexes for doctrinal publications, ensuring they assist readers in navigating the content.
  • Ensure Consistency and Compliance: Adhere to established editorial standards, style guides, and compliance with publishing guidelines throughout all documents.
  • Quality Control: Conduct final reviews to ensure accuracy, clarity, and coherence of content before submission for approval or publication.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Liaise with subject matter experts, authors, and government leads to clarify content and resolve any discrepancies during both the development and the editing process.
  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify areas for improvement in editorial processes and propose solutions to enhance the quality and efficiency of the publication workflow.

Qualifications :

  • Secret clearance, at a minimum, or ability to obtain one.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience performing the technical writing and editing of technical documents/print publications IAW industry writing standards, preferably those of the U.S. Government, Army, and TRADOC. Experience must reflect the ability to proofread, concisely revise, and produce technical documents ready for publication or dissemination following professional standards for pagination and format.
  • Strong command of the English language, to include applying the rules of grammar, mechanics, and usage.
  • Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to use them to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with the technical staff, especially technical writers.
  • Ability to recognize and work with U.S. Government, Department of Defense (DOD), and Army language idiosyncrasies, including familiarity with military and/or military intelligence (MI) terminology preferred.
  • Highly detail oriented.
  • Ability and willingness to work independently.
  • Extensive working knowledge of Microsoft (MS) Office Suite applications and Adobe applications for publication editing, to include MS Word and Adobe Acrobat Pro, respectively.
  • Ability to edit an average of 700 words per hour.

 

Salary: Final salary determination will be based on skill set and qualifications
